A large depth of field is essentially when the whole image is in focus and there is no blur. This sequence is accomplished by increasing the f-stop value on the lense. In retrospect the higher the number, the smaller the aperture, which evidently means it will produce less bokeh; making the image clearer.
Large depths of field are usually used to capture landscape and architecture shots (other types of shots may vary depending on the location), as it is best to keep everything in focus and show as much as possible as a whole. Some examples can be seen down below.
